Privacy policy

We collect as little as we can, and we never sell your data.

Who is responsible

Creative Filter Ltd (registered in England & Wales), which operates business-tips.co.uk, is the data controller. Contact us via the contact form or at hi@business-tips.co.uk.

What we collect and why

  • When you post a tip: your name, email, optional social handles, website, logo and PayPal email. We use these to publish your tip (contract), email your receipt and discount code, and let readers tip you.
  • Payments: handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. We keep the amount paid and Stripe's reference.
  • Newsletter: your email, only if you sign up (consent). Managed by Brevo. Unsubscribe any time from any email.
  • Contact forms: your name, email and message, delivered via Web3Forms so we can reply (legitimate interest).
  • Votes, click-outs and visitor counts: we store a one-way, salted hash of your IP address and browser, never the IP itself, to stop vote abuse and count unique visitors (legitimate interest).
  • Analytics: Google Analytics and app.subscribers.com push notifications, only if you accept them in the cookie banner (consent).

Who we share it with

Service providers who process data for us: Cloudflare (hosting and database), Amazon Web Services (logo storage), Stripe (payments), Brevo (email), Web3Forms (contact forms), Google (analytics, with consent), Subscribers.com (push notifications, with consent) and PayPal (when you choose to tip an author). Some of these are outside the UK; they use approved safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.

How long we keep it

Published tips stay until you ask us to remove them. Payment records are kept for 6 years for tax purposes. Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe. Vote and visit hashes are kept for up to 12 months.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, object to processing, or withdraw consent at any time. Contact us and we'll respond within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
